My beginnings
Some trials and tribulations in life are blessings in disguise. I will never forget what it was like to feel slow or stupid in elementary, junior high, high school and college – never knowing the problem was a handicap called dyslexia. I always knew something was wrong, but I didn’t know what it was.
While I was in college, I struggled in academics and financially. I worked full time and went to school full time.
Although I failed the same math class five times, I understood the importance of obtaining a bachelor’s degree. Keep in mind I wasn’t diagnosed with dyslexia until my graduating semester at San Jose State University. So, I struggled in school my entire life. While working on my bachelor’s degree, I told myself I would never get a master’s degree. Let me tell you – never say never.
In 1996, I was struggling with what I wanted to do with my life. I was modeling, working full time at Hewlett Packard and baking brownies. During that same year, I enrolled in a MBA program at Golden Gate University in San Francisco.
During my first semester, I shared my brownie business plan with my instructor David Palmer, PhD. He told me if I didn’t start my heart-shaped brownie company someone else would. So, I left took a leave of absence from the MBA program and started Luv’s Brownies in October 1996.
In year 2000, the dot.com and high technology industry took a nose dive. Because so many of my clients were in high tech brownie sales declined. During the same year, I decided to go back to school and complete my MBA.
Because of my education and work history, I have had the privilege of working for or consulting for some of the best high tech companies in the world.
I am offering a college scholarship because when I was financially struggling I was awarded a scholarship. And, although my parents wanted to financially help me they weren’t in a position to assist. So believe me, I know what it is like to struggle and have financial obligations.
When I was awarded a scholarship, receiving the money made me feel like, I wasn’t alone and there were people that cared about me. My motto in life is “never let any challenge stop you from making your dreams a reality.”
